Jan-Anders E. Mansson

Distinguished Professor at Purdue University

1981: PhD-degree in Mechanical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden.

1990: Professor at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and Director of a newly created chair in Polymer and Composite Technology (LTC) at the Institute of Materials.

Research areas: novel cost-effective materials and manufacturing methods as well as unique additional functionalities, beyond the classical performance characteristics of composite materials. 

2004-2008: Vice-president at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, responsible for a newly created vice presidency in Innovation and Technology Transfer

2000-2008: Swiss Focal Point, under the Swiss Federal Science Agency for the cooperation in Science and Technology with the Republic of Korea.

2008-2016: President of the International Academy of Sports Science and Technology (AISTS), an International Olympic Committee (IOC) 

2016: Purdue University as Distinguished Professor in Engineering and as Director of the Composite Manufacturing and Simulation Center. He also serves as Co-Executive Director for an Indiana Innovation Network (INMAC).

Pedro Camanho

Professor at university of Porto

1999: PhD in Composite Materials, Department of Aeronautics, Imperial College London, UK

2014: Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Porto

Main research interests: mechanics of deformation and fracture of advanced polymer composite materials, and new concepts for lightweight composite materials for aerospace applications such as hybrid, nano-structured, and ultra-thin composites

Project and other involvements:

  • Visiting Scientist at NASA-Langley Research Center since 2000
  • Visiting Scientist at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory
  • Involved in several research projects funded by the European Space Agency, Airbus, NASA, Embraer, Daimler AG, Aernnova, European Union, FCT, and US Air Force

Awards:

  • 2006 NASA H.J.E. Reid Award for Outstanding Scientific Paper
  • 2005 Young Researcher in Applied and Computational Mechanics Award
  • 2005-2009 Engineering Fracture Mechanics Most Cited Articles Award
  • 2016 Mechanics of Materials Highly Cited Research Award
