To achieve lightweighting targets, compression-molded materials such as SMC and DFC are clearly in the scope of many automotive Tier1s and OEMs. Using traditional techniques, designing components made of these materials right the first time can be a real challenge. Similar to other chopped fiber reinforced materials, the local and global performance of these components is strongly influenced by the effect of the compression-molding process. In this Lunch & Learn session, e-Xstream will show the current state-of-the art in modelling SMC materials within our Digimat platform.

Dustin Souza holds a Master of Science in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University. While earning his Masters Degree, Dustin worked closely with his advisor, Dr. Byron Pipes, to launch a composites nanohub site which encompassed all composites simulation programs. Dustin has worked as an Application Engineer at e-Xstream Engineering, an MSC Software Company, since 2013 and now specializes in partnering with automotive OEMs and suppliers to solve complex engineering challenges, especially those related to composites.
